International Nuclear Services operates a fleet of ships dedicated to the transport of nuclear materials, on behalf of Pacific Nuclear Transport Ltd. (www.pntl.co.uk) and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (www.nda.gov.uk). All of these vessels are certified by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency to the appropriate classification of The International Code for the Safe Carriage of Packaged Irradiated Nuclear Fuel, Plutonium and High-Level Radioactive Wastes on Board Ships (INF Code), issued by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

In over 40 years of operations, International Nuclear Services has successfully transported over 2,000 casks of nuclear material. This has included irradiated fuel from European and Japanese nuclear power plants, mixed oxide (MOX) fuel to Japan and Europe and vitrified high-level waste from France to Japan. Preparations are also underway to return vitrified high-level waste from the UK to Japan and Europe.

International Nuclear Services also has extensive experience of transporting other nuclear materials, including irradiated research reactor fuel from Japan and Europe to the United States.

Our shipments have covered more than 5 million miles safely and securely with no incidents resulting in the accidental release of radioactivity.

We offer complete nuclear material transport solutions for our customers worldwide. Through our dedicated team we design and manufacture complex transport flasks (casks) and offer a full flask approvals and licensing service from a dedicated team of experts. In addition we have the capability to provide a complete service from flask loading, through land transport, inter-modal transfer to appropriate vessels, sea transport and back to land transport to the final destination. This service is provided through a team of specialist flask handling engineers and marine transport experts, backed up by comprehensive stakeholder management plans and regulatory interfaces.
