MOX Fuel Business
The Sellafield MOX Plant is co-located with the Thorp Reprocessing Plant at Sellafield, with both facilities providing a fully integrated recycling capability on one site. Although the Sellafield MOX Plant is at the early stages of operation, it has the capability to produce MOX fuel pellets, rods and assemblies for both Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) MOX fuel.
The Sellafield MOX Plant is divided into a number of areas dedicated to MOX powder preparation, pellet production, rod fabrication and fuel assembly manufacture. Associated with Sellafield MOX Plant is the Sellafield MOX Plant Export Facility that is used for loading certified fuel assemblies into transport containers for shipping to overseas customers. Sellafield MOX Plant is supported by a fully accredited quality management system and the inspection methods used for product quality control are fully automated wherever possible.
MOX Fuel Sales and Projects
MOX Fuel Sales and Projects (MFSP) is part of International Nuclear Services and is responsible for securing the contracts from overseas customers for the Sellafield MOX Plant. Having secured the contracts, MFSP is the principal interface between the overseas customer and the Sellafield MOX Plant during contract implementation and manufacture of the fuel. In addition, MFSP manages a number of MOX-related projects for Sellafield Limited, involving overseas customers and suppliers.
MFSP personnel operate worldwide to secure business for the Sellafield MOX Plant, keeping potential customers up to date with plant performance and changes being made to improve its capability.
Obtaining and maintaining customer confidence is a top priority for MFSP. Therefore, MFSP make every effort to identify customer requirements and share manufacturing information to ensure that responsibilities for contract deliverables and customer quality arrangements are clearly defined and agreed.
