Fact-finding Mission from China

Two members of INS with the CNPE delegation

In late 2011, INS hosted a two-day visit to the UK, by a delegation of Engineers from the China Nuclear Power Engineering Co Ltd (CNPE), a subsidiary of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). The CNPE is the nuclear design and engineering organisation within China, tasked with designing facilities for China's back-end fuel-cycle programme.

The CNPE delegation was on a fact-finding mission, to visit the Thorp reprocessing facility at Sellafield in West Cumbria. The delegation were particularly interested in nuclear safety, the plant’s operating experience and improvements, and Sellafield’s response to the Fukushima incident.
