Multimodal Cumbria 2011
International Nuclear Services (INS) recently attended the Multimodal Cumbria 2011 event at the Port of Workington, organised by Britain’s Energy Coast and supported by Direct Rail Services (DRS) and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The event was an opportunity for the port to demonstrate its recently upgraded infrastructure aimed at offering an improved multi-modal link into the North West.
With the recent addition of a new crane and through partnering with DRS and Norbert Dentressangle, the port aims to develop into a significant container and logistics hub for the UK’s North West region. To facilitate this, the port will become part of a new container route including Rotterdam and Belfast/Dublin. DRS are also investing in lowliner wagons opening up large parts of the rail network to efficient high cube container traffic.
In addition to dockside demonstrations, the event hosted several prominent speakers including Lord Marland, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), Tony Cunningham, MP for Workington, Tony Fountain, Chief Executive of NDA and Dr Pete Waterman OBE, record producer/writer and lifelong rail industry aficionado.
INS, who operates a fleet of ships dedicated to the safe and secure transport of nuclear materials, was delighted to be invited to support the event and was very pleased with the interest generated in our transport capabilities.
