Successful shipment to Sweden

Atlantic Osprey

International Nuclear Services, the world's leading transporter of nuclear materials and the commercial agent of the UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, has recently completed a successful shipment of spent nuclear fuel components from the Sellafield site to Sweden.

The material belongs to EDF Energy and INS, under contract to Studsvik Nuclear AB, transported the components on the Atlantic Osprey to Sweden for routine technical analysis. This analysis, which is part of EDF Energy's commitment to safety, will provide information on the material’s characteristics following its use in a reactor to generate electricity in the UK.

The Atlantic Osprey is fully certificated and complies with all national and international standards for safety and security for this type of cargo. The entire transport operation took place in accordance with a transport plan, which takes into account all aspects of safety and security and is approved by international regulators.

INS has previously used the Atlantic Osprey vessel to undertake similar shipments, and this further successful shipment continues to demonstrate INS’ ability to meet customers’ transport needs in a safe and secure manner.
