VIP visit to INS Marine Terminal
INS recently hosted a visit to the INS Marine Terminal, Barrow-in-Furness, of Councillor Dave Pidduck (pictured second from the left) and prospective parliamentary labour candidate for Barrow-in-Furness, John Woodcock (pictured centre).
The fact finding visit also included a tour of the MV Pacific Heron and Mr Woodcock said: “It was good to meet the captain and crew members aboard the Pacific Heron, INS management and staff at the terminal.
“There are many ways in which Barrow-in-Furness can play a full part in Cumbria’s energy coast and this is one of them.
“It is an impressive operation that is bringing lasting benefit to the Furness economy and it was reassuring to see the extensive safety procedures that have been put in place.
“Transportation of nuclear material rightly remains a highly sensitive issue but I was pleased to see the commitment from the company to engage fully with the community.
“I think most local residents take a balanced view that there are substantial economic benefits to the area from Furness engaging in this process and the dialogue must continue in the years ahead.”
Councillor Pidduck, who as well as being the leader of the labour group for Barrow Council, is also Chairman of the Ramsden Dock Terminal Stakeholder Group, said: “We thank the terminal staff for our excellent visit, which gave John an insight into the important work of the terminal.”
