Visit of French High Committee to Barrow Marine Terminal

French High Committee with some members of INS at Barrow Marine Terminal

International Nuclear Services (INS) hosted a visit to its Barrow Marine Terminal recently by members of the French High Committee for Transparency and Information on Nuclear Safety (HCTISN).

The purpose of the visit was for HCTISN to view two of the ships operated by INS, the Pacific Pintail and the Atlantic Osprey, to see for themselves the standard of the ships used for the transport of nuclear materials. HCTISN were also able to view the refurbishment work recently undertaken on the Atlantic Osprey. (See news item of 16 June 2009 >>>).

As well as visiting the two vessels, INS and James Fisher Shipping Services made presentations on the design and safety features of INF class vessels. The classification of vessels for the transport of nuclear materials in accordance with the INF Code (The International Code for the Safe Carriage of Packaged Irradiated Nuclear Fuel, Plutonium and High-Level Radioactive Wastes on Board Ships), is regulated by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
