MOX Fuel Delivered Safely To Japan
The transportation by sea of MOX Fuel, that departed France for Japan in March 2009, has been completed safely. This represents a continuation of INS/PNTL’s 40-year record of transporting nuclear material without any incidents involving the release of radioactivity.
The consignment of fuel was transported on the purpose-built vessels, Pacific Heron and Pacific Pintail, and travelled from France around the Cape of Good Hope, across the south west Pacific Ocean, passing Australia on their way to Japan.
The fuel was delivered directly to three locations. The vessels will now remain in Japan for a period of time before returning back to their home port of Barrow-in-Furness, UK.
