Departure Information for MOX Fuel Shipment from Europe to Japan

Following our press release of 28 January 2009, we are now in a position to communicate the following information about the shipment of Mixed Oxide (MOX) fuel to Japan that departed from France on 5 March 2009 (GMT).

  1. The shipment departed from the port of Cherbourg
  2. The purpose-built ships used are the Pacific Pintail and Pacific Heron.
  3. The shipment consists of MOX fuel contained in transport casks.
  4. The shipment will take a route to Japan around the Cape of Good Hope/South West Pacific Ocean.
  5. The shipment is scheduled to arrive in Japanese territorial waters in the second half of May 2009.

This statement is being released simultaneously in France and Japan by AREVA-NC and ORC respectively.
