Arrival of MOX fuel in Japan
Following our statement of 9 April 2010, we can announce the safe arrival at Genkai nuclear power station, Japan, of the shipment of Mixed Oxide (MOX) fuel that departed from France on 8th April 2010 (GMT).

HAW containers transferred to store
Following the successful transportation of the first highly active waste (HAW) containers to Japan, final inspections have successfully been completed and the waste transferred to the Rokkasho-Mura storage facility.

A new playground for local Primary School

Management of Dounreay Reprocessing Contracts transfers to INS
International Nuclear Services (INS) recently took over formal management responsibility for the existing Dounreay overseas reprocessing contracts, from Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL), on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The majority of these contracts were entered into by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) during its management of Dounreay in the 1980s and 1990s. These contracts were transferred from the UKAEA to the NDA in 2005.

Japanese VIP Visit
During March 2010, INS and Sellafield hosted a visit to the Sellafield site of the Japan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC). The JAEC advises the Japanese Government on the basic policies for the promotion of research, development and utilisation of nuclear energy in Japan.

Safe and successful completion of highly active waste shipment to The Netherlands
Sellafield Ltd and International Nuclear Services, working in partnership, have completed the shipment of solid highly active waste to The Netherlands, therefore completing the return of all Dutch HAW from the UK. This fulfils contractual obligations and also UK Government policy by returning the waste to the country that benefited from the reprocessed fuel from which the waste originated.

High Active Waste departs UK for The Netherlands
Sellafield Ltd and International Nuclear Services, working in partnership, are in the process of transporting a flask of solid highly active waste (HAW) to the harbour of Vlissingen in The Netherlands. From there, the HAW will be transported by truck to the HABOG store at Vlissingen, operated by COVRA. This is a continuation of the programme of repatriating foreign waste to overseas customers, a programme which is fulfilling contractual obligations and also UK Government policy.
